Mexican artist Bosco Sodi worked on the art exhibited at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, in a special residency that allowed him to ‘absorb’ the atmosphere of the great art and history of Venice.
The project was initiated around the bright red pigment made from scale insect, a plant parasite originating from Central America that reached Europe, and Venice, in the early 1500s. Soon, the greatest artists of the Venetian Renaissance learned to employ the pigment in their art, above all Titian. The colour red becomes thus a representation of the strong link that unites the ancient art collection at the Palazzo with Sodi’s art.
