Artist and filmmaker of post-Soviet stock, Ismailova has been a fellow at several art and formation centres in western Europe, such as Berlin’s DAAD Programme and Fabrica in Treviso, Italy. Her films are elegies of a world, Central Asia, that has been going through dramatic changes over the twentieth century; they are introspective and sentimental, and indissolubly linked to her identity as a proud Uzbek woman. At the Biennale, she will participate with video art.
