Mabel Wilson is an architecture historian who has worked extensively on segregated spaces, specifically in American prisons. Her main interest is African-American inmates, part of her research into the African-American diaspora. Wilson teaches African American and African Diasporic Studies at Columbia, where she also directs the Institute for Research in African American Studies (IRAAS) and the Global Africa Lab. Her project, designed together with the Howeler+Yoon studio, is for the Memorial to the Enslaved Laborers at the University of Virginia. Josh Begley, an artist who works with data and its relationship with technology, has also worked on prison architecture and territories. The team also includes Gene Han, a graduate of the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and a co-founder of Canvas studio in New York.
