The Laboratory of the Pennsylvania State University guided by Felecia Davis investigates one of the most advanced paths of modern material design, namely, computational design. At the heart of this research practice, which makes use of experimental work by teachers and students and of the mingling of teaching and laboratory study, is the development of materials – especially textiles – resulting from algorithm-controlled production processes. The resulting materials possess high complexity, extreme lightness, and deeply articulated structures, all achieved through an intense interaction between traditional materials and human know-how.
