Starting with the rediscovery of her roots, Folasade Okunribido explores new ways of inhabiting spaces that celebrate African history. Yoruba architecture, which originates in Nigeria, is a lens through which to explore space: in her Ààfin Awon Eniyan, the typical afin, a style of palace built for the local elite, is given back to a group of marginalized people, who will be free to subvert traditional hierarchy and celebrate collective life. The colour blue is also an expression of freedom from ideology and prejudice, which here assumes the vital role typical of structural elements.
