An opera that has been missing from Fenice since 1977, I due Foscari by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed from 6 to 14 October, in a production by the Fondazione Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino directed by Grisha Asagaroff, with period-inspired sets and costumes by Luigi Perego, light design by Valerio Tiberi and choreography by Cristiano Colangelo. Specialist of the Verdi repertoire, Sebastiano Rolli leads the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro La Fenice – choir master Alfonso Caiani – and a cast whose main performers include the baritone Luca Salsi, the tenor Francesco Meli and the soprano Anastasia Bartoli. The scenography of the show is inspired by the Monument to Doge Francesco Foscari in the Frari Church, it becomes a sort of ‘scenic tower’ which, turning, creates the spaces in which the singers move. A space is given to the ballet and represents the only moment of the opera in which the dark atmosphere manages to loosen, before the terrible finale.
