As part of the current cultural programme at Teatrino Grassi, curator Nicholas Isherwood dedicated the opening night of February 11 to a creation of György Sándor Ligeti, a composer who innovated twentieth-century musical language with electronic experimentation and created micropolyphony. Ligeti is also known for his operas adapted to film scores. To name a few: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut. On the same day, French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard will perform Ligeti’s Études for piano. A commentary by ethnomusicologist Simha Arom, a performance by dancer Aminta Traoré, and five drummers will complement the evening with art and discussion on and from Central Africa.
