RUDOLF BUCHBINDER

Stagione Sinfonica 2023-2024
7 March 2024

-

9 March 2024

For the first time in the dual role of pianist soloist and conductor of the Teatro La Fenice Orchestra, Rudolf Buchbinder is the star of the next concert in the 2023-2024 Symphonic Season of the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice. The acclaimed maestro will offer a programme entirely dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven, an author of whom he is a leading interpreter. In particular, he will perform two concert pieces for piano and orchestra: Concerto No. 3 in C minor op. 37 and Concerto No. 5 in E flat major op. 73 Emperor. The Concerto No. 3 in C minor Op. 37 is considered a turning point in Beethoven’s piano literature. Composed between 1800 and 1803, it was first performed with Beethoven at the piano on 5 April 1803 in Vienna under the baton of Ignaz von Seyfried, and was Beethoven’s most popular piano concerto throughout the 19th century. In it, soloist and orchestra converse according to the model of the classical concerto, but there are clear signs of an original maturation of the piano language, also the result of the important creative experience of the Sonatas (up to and excluding Opus 53): as if Beethoven had wanted to put to good use in the different architecture of the Concerto what he had experimented with in the solo piano pieces. This is followed by the last Piano Concerto composed by Beethoven, namely No. 5 in E flat major op. 73, known as the Emperor.
