Since a few years, Isola Edipo has been working together with the Venice Days programme on projects on inclusion and education, which today, Sept. 4, thanks to a collaboration with Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, features indigenous filmmaker Morzaniel Ɨramari and Yanomami cinema.
It is essential, for us, to work with Venice Days. We started working with the VenicVenice Days programme on projects on inclusion and education. We asked Silvia Jop, what do The Eyes of the Forest give back?
Film Festival with a core programme that was quite brave at the time, if I say so myself. Back in 2017, we invited Frederick Wiseman, Dacia Maraini, and Cecilia Mangini at Edipo Re. We contacted Venice Days as possible collaborators on other projects. The first thing we did together was inviting Raymond Depardon, that was in 2018, to whom we dedicated the second iteration of our programme, Cinema of inclusion — vision and education. We created this space to address master filmmakers who made the history of cinema and to expand our vision of cinema beyond what we thought we knew. In this sense, last year we involved Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, who joined enthusiastically. It is hard to find such large and structured organization that are so willing to listen to you and build something with you. They are determined to keep a living, direct relationship with the artists they work with. Over the last two years, they were instrumental in putting us in touch with a very particular filmmaker such as Artavadz Pelechian in 2022, and with Morzaniel Ɨramari this year. We are now ready to get to know the millennia-old secrets of this proud Amazonian population.
