A press conference and a public debate to talk about much-needed freedom. The programme is promoted by Archivio Basaglia in cooperation with Isola Edipo and Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti with Venice Days and the WHO, Teche RAI, Cineteca di Bologna.
The programme focuses on Franco Basaglia and Franca Ongaro Basaglia. In 1979, Franco stated that “What’s important is that we proved that the impossible is indeed possible. Ten, fifteen, twenty years ago, it was unthinkable that a madhouse might be torn down […] we proved that we can treat the mentally ill person in a different way.” The archive’s documents is a testimony to the work of the Basaglias, heralds of psychiatric care reform in Italy and proponent of Law 180, remembered under their name, promulgated in 1978. The Archivio Basaglia project is sponsored by Alberta Basaglia, Franco Basaglia, Silvia Jop.
