The second appointment of the Asolo Musica concert season at the Lo Squero Auditorium of the Giorgio Cini Foundation is with a concert that offers a particular version of The Art of Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach. On stage on the stage with a wonderful view of the lagoon, a famous ensemble: the Italian Strumental Academy, with Alberto Rasi on soprano viola da gamba and conducting, Rossella Croce on violin, Claudia Pasetto on tenor viola da gamba, Paolo Biordi on da lower leg, Michele Zeoli on violone and Luca Guglielmi on organ. Founded in Verona with the intention of recreating the atmosphere of ancient and illustrious Academies, the Accademia Strumentale Italiana is a reference group for the vast repertoire of vocal and instrumental music between the Renaissance and the Baroque and carries out an intense concert, recording and musicological research with appearances in the most important international festivals. The Art of Fugue BWV 1080 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is the testament-masterpiece that Bach wrote in the last years of his life, leaving it unfinished. The work, consisting of a sequence of fugues and canons based on a simple musical theme in D minor present in the opening bars, bears witness to Bach’s contrapuntal genius and offers itself as a speculative, research and experimental work. In the concert it is proposed by the Accademia Strumentale Italiana in an unprecedented version for violin, four viole da gamba and organ (Autograph Mus. Ms. Bach P 200), through a performance that chooses to interpret the lectio of the autograph and not that of the first printed edition. The result of extensive research on sources, the concert becomes an opportunity to rediscover the depth and mysterious suggestion of a cornerstone of the history of music such as The Art of Fugue, aimed at the recapitulation of a glorious contrapuntal yet extremely modern past. With a new and original reading, the performance offers a listening journey that delves into the fascinating creative canvas of the collection and becomes an eloquent emotional journey, with the musicians committed to guiding the audience into the expressive universe of the Eisenach composer with inexhaustible research and refined execution mastery. With an integrated ticket, the public has the opportunity to visit the Cini Foundation, the Borges Labyrinth, the Wood with the Vatican Chapels and the Green Theater.
