CA’ FOSCARI SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 14 – DAY THREE

Friday
22 March 2024

Today at the Short is Liliana Cavani’s day: the rich offer of special programmes, tributes, focuses and retrospectives that will enrich the Short’s experience as always is distinguished this year by a strong female presence, and it is impossible not to start with one of the greatest Italian directors ever. The Emilian authoress has been one of the most recognisable voices on the Italian scene since the 1960s, capable of combining ferocity (I cannibali) with the sublime (Francesco d’Assisi), with an always lucid and sharp gaze that embraces the contradictions of her subjects while maintaining a marked international vocation, as evidenced by Il portiere di notte, Al di là del bene e del male and Il gioco di Ripley. A year after receiving the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival, where she also presented her latest film, The Order of Time, the director returns to Venice, where she will be the protagonist of a tribute in which she will converse with professor and film critic Anton Giulio Mancino, retracing a very rich career, while excerpts of her most famous works will be shown on the screen.
