On December 17, the end-of-season concert will see Mario Brunello at the violoncello da spalla in a performance of Bach’s sonatas and partitas for solo violin. In all three concerts, Mario Brunello plays a very peculiar instrument that once fuelled Bach’s creativity: his cello da spalla (braced against the shoulder) is a copy of an early-1600s Amati instrument, whose sound reminds very strongly of a penetrating countertenor timbre.
