The opera season at Fenice Theatre grows more complex and original, with traditional, A-list operas alternating with less known, though very interesting, works. It is such a case with the upcoming staging of Ottorino Respighi’s Maria Egiziaca, last performed in Venice in 1956 and now scheduled at Teatro Malibran in Venice on March 8 to 16. The opera premiered in concert format at New York’s Carnegie Hall in March 1932, while its full-scene premiere took place in Venice in August of the same year. The staging we are going to see this year will be directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi and conducted by Manlio Benzi, with Francesca Dotto in the title role, Vincenzo Costanzo, Dalibro Jenis, Luigi Morassi, Ilaria Vanacore, and William Corrò.
