MILENA VUKOTIC | MARIO ANCILLOTTI | ALESSANDRO MARANGONI

8 June 2023

The 2023 Season of Musikàmera continues with an unusual double appointment: in fact, alongside the music there will be a reciting voice, that of the great Milena Vukotic, an actress now Venetian by adoption who, in dialogue with the notes of the flautist Mario Ancillotti and the pianist Alessandro Marangoni, will give life to a highly suggestive meeting. The evening opens under the sign of Mozart, with the reading of some passages from the Letter to his cousin, written in Mannheim in November 1777, and the letters to a friend and his father during the trip to Paris, followed by Sonata No. 9 in C major K14 and the Sonata no. 21 in E minor K304, pieces that date back to the time when the famous composer lived in Paris. Extracts from Le Canzoni di Bilitis, a poetic collection by Pierre Louÿs from 1894 (and passed off as his translation from the ancient Greek of the poetess Bilitis) are the introduction to listening to the Six ancient epigraphs by Claude Debussy, pieces for piano for four hands which the composer wrote as an adaptation of the music for two flutes, two harps and celesta written in 1900-1901 as interludes for the recitation of Bilitis’s own poems. The Epigraphs are characterized by suspended chords and rarefied atmospheres, according to archaic and diatonic choices responding to abstract sonorities. In closing, some excerpts from the fable Undine by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, a romantic tale from 1811 which tells the tragic story of an undine, an aquatic spirit of Germanic folklore, prepare for listening to the Sonata op. 167 “Undine” by German composer Carl Heinrich Carsten Reinecke.
