More symphony at Fenice: on December 15, 16, and 17, a concert with Korean pianist and conductor Myung-Whun Chung, guiding the resident orchestra in Beethoven’s Pastoral and Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps. Chung enjoys a privileged relationship with Venice “I feel in love with Venice forty years ago – says he – and love only grew stronger over time.” The concert’s programme is particularly dear to the conductor, “this is music that takes strong inspiration in Nature. Beethoven’s symphony expresses the beauty and the enchantment for everything natural. We might otherwise define Le Sacre du printemps as an almost barbaric, primordial expression, a depiction of nature’s very strength.” Myung-Whun Chung worked at the City Theatre in Florence 1987 to 1992, was the Musical Director at the Paris Opera-Bastille 1989 to 1994, and the director-general of the National Music Academy ‘Santa Cecilia’ in Rome 1997 to 2005. In 2013, Venice gave Chung the keys to the city.
