Soft touch, flowing harmonies and improvisations are the protagonists of pianist Nitai Hershkovits’ eagerly awaited concert with Call on the Old Wise, the new star of ECM’s celebrated line of solo piano recordings. Born to a Moroccan mother and a Polish father, Nitai Hershkovits’ musical journey first began with the clarinet instrument before moving to the piano at the age of 15. Jazz and improvised music were immediately the focal point of his musical pursuits in his teenage years, with a strong interest in Sonny Rollins. He later studied with Omer Avital and Avishai Cohen. In 2016 he moved to New York. He is now back living in Israel. Call on the Old Wise is his first album for ECM, and features his powerful piano skills in a largely improvised context.
