On 7 October the Quartetto di Venezia returns with a tribute to Gian Francesco Malipiero 50 years after his death; the concert includes the Quartet n. 3 Cantari alla madrigalesca and the Quartet n. 6 Noah’s Ark by Gian Francesco Malipiero and, finally, the Quartet in D minor (1909) by Ottorino Respighi.
Respighi was a profound connoisseur of Gregorian chant, a transcriber and scholar of ancient music on which he studied and worked in an orchestral version, among the most famous compositions: the Gregorian Concerto (1921), the Concerto in mixed mode (1924), the suite The Birds ( 1927), Ancient arias and dances for lute (1917-31). He also composed numerous works for the theater opera including Belfagor (1922), La Campana sommersa (1927), Maria Egiziaca (1932), La flame (1934) and the unfinished Lucrezia (later completed by his wife Elsa Olivieri Sangiacomo, composer singer and pianist, his former student).
