Musikàmera’s ninth season continues at the Sale Apollinee of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice with a fascinating evening of art songs and piano masterpieces performed by soprano Silvana Torto and pianist Dina Pysarenko, who will perform a refined programme celebrating the beauty of French Romanticism and Impressionism, presenting works by Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, Duparc, Chausson, Gounod and Hahn. Silvana Torto is renowned for her luminous voice and nuanced interpretations of French mélodies, while Dina Pysarenko is an internationally renowned pianist, known for her versatility and a repertoire ranging from Bach to contemporary classics such as Ligeti and Grisey. The proposed programme is entirely from the French area – including music by Reynaldo Hahn, Venezuelan by birth but later naturalised French: the opening is reserved for six pieces by Gabriel Fauré, four of them from op. 58 Cinq mélodies de Venise. And Moonlight, so often sung in the lagoon, emerges both as Fauré’s last piece and – with the same title – as a characteristic piece by Claude Debussy, whose lyrics Mandoline, Green and Il pleure dans mon coeur, all on texts by Paul Verlaine, are also performed. Nearly fifty years later is Maurice Ravel’s Ondine, a piece with ‘wet’ harmonies, with scales that make one think of rivulets of rain and cause effects of sonorous pulverisation.
