For Writers in Conversation series of encounters, a spin-off activity from the Incroci di civiltà literary festival, there is a meeting with Chinese writer Xia Jia, in conversation with Nicoletta Pesaro and Federico Picerni, professors at the Department of Asian and Mediterranean African Studies.
Xia Jia (pseudonym of Wang Yao) is a professor of Chinese literature at Xi’an Jiaotong University and has been an author of speculative fiction since her college days. She has won the Galaxy Award, China’s most prestigious prize for science fiction, eight times and has published three Chinese-language collections, The Demon-Enslaving Flask (2012), A Time Beyond Your Reach (2017) and Xi’an City Is Falling Down (2018). His first English-language anthology of short stories, A Summer Beyond Your Reach (2021), was the first book published by Clarkesworld Books.
In Italian, she has published a collection of short stories, Festa di primavera (2019), and a graphic novel, Stanotte sfilano cento fantasmi (2021) with the publisher Future Fiction. She is also involved in other science fiction-related activities, including academic research, translation, screenwriting, and teaching creative writing.
