Five creators from the African art scene – Option Nyahunzvi (1992, Zimbabwe), Pamela Enyonu (1985, Uganda), Alexandre Kyungu (1992, Congo), Boniface Maina (1987, Kenya) and Ngugi Waweru (1987, Kenya) – were invited for a residence in Venice to work in contact with the collections of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna thanks to an unprecedented initiative implemented by AKKA Project, Africa First and Ca’ Pesaro.
The result is a series of site-specific works that engage with time and space and with the centuries and continents. Klimt, Rodin, De Chirico, Carrà, the building itself, as well as the whole city, have been reinterpreted from a new and surprising perspective.
