Upon first look, Martin Weinstein’s paintings seem to take their roots in traditional landscape painting, though they depict perceptions that grow into an individual record of space and being. These combined images have been painted over several sessions. The final layer, which ends up on their back, is an abstract panel that acts as the support for the figurative layers on top of it, alluding to the ultimate unknown that is the basis of all perception. These multiple acrylic sheets record a timeframe, an experience, and a memory, and acknowledge that these perceptions are, in fact, illusions.
