Subodh Gupta’s worked on the rituals and symbolism of food consumption and preparation. The installation is accompanied by a cooking and eating performance: food will be prepared by the artist and eaten by the ‘viewer’. Worn-out vessels, discarded by previous users, show individual stories and past utility. Together, the utensils embody a new, collective ritual space, alluding both to subjectively lived fates and to communal cosmological destinies.
