A new project by Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova. Palianytsia is a type of bread and, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the word has become a shibboleth, a word used to tell ethnic groups apart as Russians will pronounce it differently than locals. The project has been inspired by living in Transcarpathia, a region in western Ukraine where the artist lived with co-author Denis Ruban. “Art makes us visible and will make our voices heard.” (Zhanna Kadyrova)
