The Venice Music Biennale Golden Lion Award to Brian Eno seals, consistently and with powerful symbolic potential, the themes that the Biennale itself advocates—the standing of electronic music and its right to citizenship among the worthiest expressive languages. In the words of art director Lucia Ronchetti: “The recording studio as compositional meta-tool [allows] Eno creates immersive electronic spaces that transform and permeate acoustic reality, modulating it into ever-changing narratives” Musician, producer, visual artist, and activist Brian Eno has been invited in Venice in his capacity as ‘artist’ – not ‘musician’. A creator that has always displayed lack of interest in labels will make a perfect emblem for Micro-Music, the 67th International Festival of Contemporary Music.
