Inspired by Sophocles’ tragedy Oedipus at Colonus, Loukia Alavanou’s VR movie is an immersion in a world that begins 2500 years ago and lives to the present day. As happened then for Oedipus, to whom the Athenians wanted to deny a resting place in Colonus, so happens today for the Romani community living in a slum outside Athens. Its inhabitants – most of whom do not have Greek citizenship – are denied burial close to home. The inside staging of the Pavilion has been inspired by the work of utopian architect Takis Zenetos to allow visitors a poetic, introspective, and radical experience.
