“The transformation of the Nordic Pavilion into the Sámi Pavilion is an act of indigenous sovereignty”, says the Office for Contemporary Art of Norway-OCA, who entrusted the Pavilion to Sámi artists, a population native of Sápmi, the polar region of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. As well as being educational about the history and culture of the native population, the exhibition is also about the pressing of climate change and perspectives on decolonization.
