Time flows backwards in the Swiss Pavilion thanks to a countermelody of lights and sounds. Working with drummer Alexandre Babel, artist Latifa Echakhch orchestrates an exhibition that changes in atmospheres hall after hall, evokes ancient folk rites, and ritual burnings at the stake that are present in every culture. Large sculptures, veiled by oppressive darkness, are part of an all-encompassing experience, a rhythmic and spatial moment that offers a perception deeper than time or body can go. “We want – says Echakhch – visitors to leave the exhibition space feeling the same as they would upon leaving a concert hall. They should feel the echo, the fragments of memory.”
