The project responds to the theme proposed by Lesley Lokko by involving Top Manta, the Senegalese street vendors trade union of Barcelona (turned fashion brand) that defends migrants’ rights and denounces racism in public institutions. The installation takes the form of an outdoor market where the merchandise are memories from the migrants’ journey, and will inspire reflection on the relationship between the global north and the global south, and on the aftermath of the African diaspora. The goal is to identify alternative architectures to the dominant ones and to re-think cities keeping into account the quality of life: collective kitchens and co-housing, as well as reception centres for migrants.
