Social issues are an essential chapter of sustainability challenges. Just think of the squatter movement in Berlin in the 1970s and 1980s, which effected a more cautious approach to urban renewal, requiring the preservation of local communities and urban environment. The project focuses on ecologically- and socially-compatible development of urban areas and on opportunities of recycling, upkeeping, and revitalization that contribute greatly to resource protection. Safeguarding takes place, factually, in the staging of the exhibition itself, which employed recycled material from the earlier Biennale.
