Since the 1930s, an extensive and collective program has affected a vast arid area in Greece. Today the area is home to a series of artificial lakes spread over a mostly rugged terrain, a sort of reverse archipelago that has profoundly changed the territory. The Pavilion shows dams, reservoirs and other bodies of water that transform the land into χώρα, meaning “country”. However, the etymology of the Greek term also refers to the verb “to contain”, recalling the sense of a place that contains the life, actions, memories and expectations of its inhabitants.
