An engineering project among the most famous and strategically important in the world, the Panama Canal is the object of this study, starting with the real, often divisive issues that its building spurred at the time. The analysis ranges from the architectural systems designed to create the canal to the instances of people that saw their existence and habits revolutionized in the moment water flooded the surrounding landscape, to the Barro Colorado Island, which was created by the very same intervention.
