The Slovenian project offers a new point of view on energy efficiency in architecture – an issue that all too often is passed on to the use of technology and is hidden behind the walls. Energy efficiency appears as a separate, independent component of a building, and, consequently, ecology in architecture is perceived as a series of restrictions imposed by technical and legislative rules. By replacing the term ‘energy efficiency’ with the more apt ‘ecology’, the Pavilion’s curators investigate how ecology can be useful for architecture, also looking at a series of traditional European buildings which, unlike contemporary practice, approach the theme holistically, as an intrinsic part of architectural design.
