In 2023, Uruguayan cellulose exports are projected to surpass those of meat. Since the 1980s, forests in Uruguay grew over 30-fold, an expansion that seemingly won’t stop, especially now that their government allocated a further ten million acres to forest. This is where INST/MAPA + Carlos Casacuberta come into play: at the centre of the scene, they created an avatar that embodies Uruguay’s 1987 Forest Law. The avatar moves about the Pavilion, looks in the mirror, and questions the possible scenarios that imagine the country as an equitable, inclusive workshop for the future of timber.
