At the centre of the story is versatile actress, director, and screenwriter Nathalie Boutefeu and the correspondence between Lev Tolstoy and his wife Sofia, whom he married after merely a week of engagement. Their relationship was complex and intricate, and is the subject of A Couple.
Golden Lion in 2014, and Honorary Oscar in 2016, Frederick Wiseman participated in the Venice Film Festival with Ex Libris: The New York Public Library (2017), a documentary dedicated to the commitment to culture of the historical New York institution. Wiseman’s films are stylistically unmistakable, and earned him a total of four Emmys.
