Fictional debut for the renowned American documentarist, the film has been made while the director was confined in his country home due to the pandemic. At the centre of the story is versatile actress, director, and screenwriter Nathalie Boutefeu and the correspondence between Lev Tolstoy and his wife Sofia, whom he married after merely a week of engagement. Their relationship was complex and intricate, and is the subject of A Couple.

Frederick Wiseman

Golden Lion in 2014, and Honorary Oscar in 2016, Frederick Wiseman participated in the Venice Film Festival with Ex Libris: The New York Public Library (2017), a documentary dedicated to the commitment to culture of the historical New York institution. Wiseman’s films are stylistically unmistakable, and earned him a total of four Emmys.
