Two years after his parents divorced, seventeen-year-old Nicholas (Zen McGrath) cannot live with his mother anymore. The depression he feel never leaves him, and he can only find solace in childhood memories. Nicholas goes to live with his father, Peter (Hugh Jackman), who just had a son by his new partner, Beth (Vanessa Kirby). Overwhelmed by the events, Peter will question where the line stands between what is best for us and what we owe to other people, especially our children.
Florian Zeller authored several plays, staged in 45 countries. A French playwright and director, his earlier movie The Father won two Oscars. Both movies are theatrical adaptations of his plays.
