Valeria is Getting Married focuses on two Ukrainian sisters, one, Christina, already living in Israel after an arranged marriage brokered online, and the other, Valeria, considering the same. Set over the course of one day, the film focuses on the relationship between the two sisters. Christina is happy with her life and wants the same for her Valeria, but something doesn’t feel quite right, and as the day goes by, she begins to doubt her choices. The film was shot before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Born in 1976, Michal Vinik is an Israeli filmmaker, director and screenwriter who also teaches filmmaking at Tel Aviv University and Beit Berl College. Her first feature film Barash was presented at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and in over seventy festivals around the world. It premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Vinik also created The Eternal Smile, a photo story starring Playmobil figures.
