WHERE Los Angeles, USA
PEOPLE Ainslee Alem Robson (b. Cleveland, USA, 1993)

An Ethiopian-American author and filmmaker who investigates the friction between identity, perception, digital vocation, and nostalgia using speculative and emancipative narratives. Her view is transcultural, feminist, and post-colonial. Ainslee developed an experimental narrative and visual language in Ferenj: A Graphic Memoir in VR, her directorial debut. This Afro-surrealist experience is a graphic/experimental memoir set in dreamland which explores the meaning of ‘home’ with a focus on the Ethiopian-American mixed identity of the author, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and later lived in Addis Abeba.
