The first woman to get a medical degree in The Netherlands and the first professional physician, Aletta Jacobs has also been a protagonist of the first feminist wave. She defended her and other women’s rights, fighting for their right to vote. As a physician, she opened an office in Amsterdam in 1882 to teach women how to use contraception. She authored several books, including an illustrated book on women’s anatomy.
