Born in Neaple in1969, grown up between Venice and Ravello, Antonio Scurati moved then to Milan where he is currently a professor of Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at IULM University, co-scientific director of the Master in Storytelling Arts, as well as columnist for the “Corriere della Sera”. The Muffled Sound of the Battle (2002) is his debut novel, published and reprinted in 2006 by Bompiani. With The Survivor he won the prestigious Campiello Prize in 2005, followed by several other important awards: The SuperMondello Award 2007 for Una storia romantica (A Romantic Story), shortlisted for the 2009 Strega Award with Il bambino che sognava la fine del mondo (The Child Who Was Dreaming the End of the World) and for the Strega Award 2014 with Il padre infedele (The Disloyal Father), Campiello Selection Award and Viareggio Award for Il tempo migliore della nostra vita (The Best Time of Our Lives), a biographical novel dedicated to Leone Ginzburg. His M. Il figlio del secolo, the first volume of a trilogy about Benito Mussolini (Strega Prize in 2019) sold 500 thousand copies in 39 countries, and was followed in 2020 by M. L’uomo della provvidenza, second part of the trilogy. The third book of the trilogy has recently been announced, and a television series is also in progress.
