A queer cisgender woman, with a black father and a white mother, Christina Quarles approaches life and art using different perspectives from a point of observation that may change but is always clearly defined. Her art shows this approach in their incorporation of changes of perspectives that break bodies into two pieces and employing outlines that emphasise shapes and generate bidimensional illusions and trompe-l’oeil. The boundaries of the picture are illusory, just like the boundaries of the self.
