JAIDER ESBELL

1979, Normandia, Brazil
2021, São Sebastião, Brazil

Recently deceased artist/activist Jaider Esbell used installation and mixed media art to draw attention to the clash of cultures between capitalist society and the native people of the Americas. A member of the Macuxi people himself, Esbell’s painting production draws from pre-European stock both in technique and themes, which compounds with the fact that the author had no formal training in art but is rather a former student of geography.
