KÉRÉ ARCHITECTURE

WHERE Berlin, Germany
PEOPLE Diébédo Francis Kéré (b. Gando, Burkina Faso, 1965)

A local, participative approach that makes use of a dual focus on design excellence and social commitment. Since 2005, the studio has been working on geographies that are largely unknown to modern architecture. Architecture is a tool of emancipation that empowers people and communities. It is made up of ancestral memories and radically simple spatiality: roofs, volumes, walls. The studio’s ingenious, pragmatic creativity excels in its sophisticated sense of structure and pioneering use of materials as well as in their thorough research into the interpretation of cultural influences.
