Looty is a ‘digital art repatriation’ project that takes place in the metaverse. To challenge the refusal of museums to return looted art to its legitimate owners, an anonymous group of artists, philosophers, and futurologists creates and sells NFT versions, the funds raised going to the Looty Fund, which in turn will support young African crea- tors aged 15 to 25. For the first time, block- chain and NFT technology offer a concrete opportunity to pay for that which was looted under colonialism.
