Noor Abuarafeh’s ultra-contemporary work focuses on the complexity of history, how it is shaped, documented, transmitted and understood, and considers the possibility of “tracing absence” using imagination to fill memory gaps or to predict the future. Working with different media, including painting, photography, video, installation, and itinerant performances, Abuarafeh draws from personal and public archives to create socially engaged, often text-based works that the artist describes as alternative forms of books.
