OLALEKAN JEYIFOUS

WHERE Brooklyn, USA
PEOPLE Olalekan Jeyifous (b. Ibadan, Nigeria, 1977)

Re-thinking the relationship between architecture, context, and community led Olalekan Jeyifous to investigate the role that space plays in the building of equality in African-American communities and those of the African diaspora. The perception of the world within them is, according to Jeyifous, essentially futuristic, considering their innate ability to reinvent themselves in their constant struggle to build shelters out of nothing. The artist represents his vision through a wide range of techniques including 3D modelling, photo montage, sculptures, or large-scale installations that evoke hi-tech or sci-fi aesthetics.
