Ovartaci, born Louis Marcussen, spent much of their life in a psychiatric hospital after a ‘schizophrenia’ diagnosis following drug abuse. Their art has always turned to the feminine (gender affirmation surgery was asked and granted at age 63) both in life and art. Ovartaci was convinced that in female figure was salvation and it showed in the art, where it was depicted at the centre of fantastic universes of bright, vivid colours.
