PORTIA ZVAVAHERA

BORN 1985, Harare, Zimbabwe
LIVES&WORKS Harare, Zimbabwe

In her paintings, Portia Zvavahera gives shape to emotions coming from a realm which goes beyond the real and the conscious world.  Her vivid images are rooted in the milestones of earthly existence: life and death, pain and pleasure, isolation and connection, love and loss. Deeply personal visions realised through layers of vibrant colors and decorated patterns similar to veils. Zvavahera’s compositions draw on particular traditions of figuration in Zimbabwe: past and present, in dialogue with post-war artistic practices that probe the nature of human condition
