ROBERT GROSVENOR

BORN 1937, New York, USA
LIVES&WORKS East Patchogue, USA

Robert Grosvenor is an American sculptor and photographer known for his surreal architectural sculptures that turn a range of technologies, structures and cultural traditions of the middle of the last century into simple and streamlined forms. His monumental sculptures challenge notions of balance and imbalance, mass and line, movement and stagnation, revealing the complexities and contradictions of spatial dynamics. Although his work is based on the aesthetic program of Minimalism, Grosvenor ironically resists the cold emblematic austerity of the genre and rather explores the sensuality of materials and the nostalgic qualities of their color and design.
